Broncos get 3 points at Seattle in Preseason Game 2

NFL News - August 22nd, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

The 2009 NFL preseason is just starting to get physical, as this week is the second week of action. Online sportsbooks such as BetED, have released game lines, point spread lines, and Over and Under lines on all 10 match ups this Saturday. The NFL network will be broadcasting two games tonight, the late game is between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, in Seattle. The Denver Broncos are a 3 point underdog in the game tonight, and the Seahawks are favored to win by 3 points. Bodog has the Over and Under bet set at 37 1/2 points, but neither of these teams had a combined score more than 37 points in their first preseason game.

The Denver Broncos played at San Francisco against the 49ers in their first preseason game, and the Broncos lost 17-16. The Broncos are on the road again in this week 2 match up, and this game looks like another tough match up for the Denver football team. What to watch for? quarterback Kyle Orton, Orton played a dismal game in week 1 of the preseason, tossing the ball up for 3 interceptions on just 16 pass attempts. The Broncos traded for Kyle Orton this off season, but if he continues to perform like this he will be replaced soon enough. The quarterback that will likely replace Kyle Orton under center in Denver, is Chris Simms. Simms has not played since he was the starting quarterback with the Buccaneers, but after a ruptured spleen, Simms was cut from the team. The Broncos signed Simms this year and in the first preseason game of 2009, Simms passed for 142 yards with 11 completions out of 17 attempts and 2 touchdowns in the game. Simms seems to be 100% and learning the offense quicker than Orton, a quarterback controversy is brewing in Denver.

The Seattle Seahawks played their first game on the road as well, but the Seahawks won their game against the Chargers with a final score of 20 - 14. The Seahawks could very easily be the surprise football team of 2009, so what should we look for? Julius Jones, the Seattle Seahawks starting running back last season had a sub par year in 2008. In the first preseason game against the Chargers, Jones only carried the ball 4 times but managed to gain 15 yards. In tonights game against the Broncos, Jones should see a large number of plays directed towards the running game. Jones needs to keep the running game ample in order to open up the passing game for quarterback Matt Hassellbeck. Th Broncos don't play physical defense so Jones should be able to display his talents tonight. This game is the last scheduled game of the night, and it will be aired on the NFL Network at 10:15 p.m., be sure to tune in and watch this match up.
